KindredSpirit’s Special: A Record of Kindred’s Audience Appeal

When I was just a wee lad my mom and aunt Lizzie were often drop-in guests to a neighborhood female gossip session that was chaired by a pair of spinster sisters who delightfully relished talk of the day.  Maybe they were just lonely, both having been school teachers long past and still engaged in the wonders of childhood experience that did make up part of the happenings of the locals and gossip.  I was the only child present at these sessions and don’t recall anything about their worldly thoughts that found discussions beyond my understanding.  At least at the time!  I remember the glass of milk and brownies that found their way into my tummy that the sisters had always prepared from scratch and left the kitchen smells lingering in my mind.

Now, as I think back to those wonderful visits that at the time I was not enjoying except for the treats, those long conversations around the sitting room, made me aware today that life really hasn’t changed all that much.  Put a group of people in a room and regardless of issues discussed, the bond among them now and then varies little as I now view it.  Still, there was a common thread of ideas that contributed to giving those ladies a recognition of importance as befit their small audience.  I do not recall heated debate or shouts that, in those days, would be most unbecoming for ladies to admit in public.

What I write is what I suddenly came to recall from those times that these ladies were smart about the nature of the neighborhood, its many problems and blessings that invaded their home life.  Local politics was most important but it was gauged by the world and national events of that time because there was a great war being waged in Europe that had come to our shores in the guise of brown shirt Nazi party hacks meant on altering political and moral values of the American people.  That, of course, for a child such thoughts were limited to discussions around the breakfast table about things that newspaper and radio news coverage made the public aware of events at home and abroad.

In those days, like today, there were believers that such exaggerated dangers were manageable whims of worry-warts.  They pointed to the Roosevelt saying in one of his speeches that people had nothing to fear but fear itself.  That domestic sentiment exposed not only weakness in its brainwashing to common domestic thought but endangered reality that overflowed into a broad range of living elements that history recorded soon in world conflict.

Throughout the political dramas that history records, such grandly strokes of the pen meant to leave a lasting and impressive wisdom for audiences everywhere, point alarmingly to skewers that result in a public held in limbo by a media bent on swaying public sentiment to a particular political persuasion.  This has surfaced as a window before the American and world public of the values aimed at the body politic of the nature of the BEAST.

I leave you with these thoughts:   Psalm 149 reminds us how each morning provides an opportunity to celebrate the love and grace of our Father in Heaven.  It calls us to sing and make music. The new day also reminds us that we, in his Word, are all saints in the kingdom of God. It is a comfort to know that one day we shall be reunited with our loved ones.  Despite trouble in both heart and mind, no matter the wants and needs, every dawn brings the promise of the Lord who takes eternal pleasure in his People.   PEACE TO ALL GOOD PEOPLE!  Amen.
